Consul General Douglas Griffiths spoke with students from Ati II Pillahuaso High School on December 12 and encouraged the young people to reach their goals. “In my country, we have a common idea of the American Dream. The American Dream is the notion that you can be the son of worker in an iron factory in a contaminated town and through scholarships to public schools and personal effort, you can manage to be a powerful executive in one of the biggest companies in the United States,” Mr. Griffiths told the students.
The Consul General also took advantage of the visit to donate books to the school’s library and to publicize the Youth Ambassadors program, which is supported by the U.S. Embassy and through which 10 outstanding students from public schools will be selected to participate in a two-week cultural exchange in the United States.
