Designed to give university students in our Consular District a valuable educational experience within a diplomatic mission, the U.S. Consulate General’s Local Intern Program began a year ago.
The Consulate has an agreement with universities in Guayaquil, Cuenca, Loja, Babahoyo and Manabi. Students from these universities can apply for an unpaid internship in one of the Consulate’s sections for up to four months.
To date, 20 Ecuadorian university students have completed internships in the Consulate. Recent articles published in the UEES and Catholic University of Guayaquil magazines are a testament to the success of the program and to how much the participants have appreciated the experience.
This program has had a significant and lasting impact on the Consulate as well, not only through the dedication and hard work of the interns, but also by strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between Ecuador and the United States.
