The 3-Point Splash American basketball team visited Guayaquil recently to promote “streetball” – a style of play popular in the United States. While in Ecuador, the team played against the local Barcelona side that also has two American players on its roster. Deputy Consul General Phillip Linderman attended the game and took advantage of the opportunity to give certificates of recognition to the American players and to emphasize the importance of sports as a vehicle for building friendship and cultural ties.
The presence and play of the Americans electrified the fans, who enjoyed the game and had a chance to interact with the visiting players after the match. At the same time, the Americans enjoyed the warm welcome from the local fans and told local media that they were extremely pleased with the event. The team continued its tour of Ecuador with a visit to the town of Milagro.
