American Medical Mission Visits Fundación Padre Damian in Guayaquil
Sixteen health care professionals from the University of Rockhurst recently visited Guayaquil to offer free physical therapy to patients at Fundación Padre Damian and through this, to improve the living conditions of hundreds of people suffering from Hansen’s Disease.
During the group’s time in Ecuador, Consul General Francisco Fernández visited Damian House to meet with them and to present them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their excellent work. Mr Fernández also took advantage of the opportunity to interact with Damien House patients and to better understand both their situation and the impact of the medical mission’s visit.
Through Damian House, Fundación Padre Damian helps more than 300 people suffering from Hansen’s Disease, which is more commonly known as leprosy; the physical and occupational therapies offered by the American team are critical in the recovery and reintegration process for those affected by the disease.
