EE.UU. Offers Humanitarian Aid to Victims of Floods in Ecuador

Consul General Douglas Griffiths was present at the delivery of the U.S. Government’s third contingent of donations destined for the victims of the floods on the Ecuadorian coast. The donations include contributions made through USAID and the Military Group in the Embassy in Quito that total approximately $573,700, in an effort to cover the diverse areas of necessity.
The participation of USAID consists of $50,000 to the Ecuadorian Red Cross for the purchase of sanitary provisions, as well as wood and metal to construct to temporary shelters and boats. Additionally, USAID donated 8,000 hygiene kits, potable water containers and other materials needed in the affected zones, with a total value of $284,000. USAID also delivered cleaning supplies to the Ecuadorian Red Cross in Quito and Manta, with values of $5,700 and $9,000 respectively.
The Military Group in the Embassy in Quito sent boat maintenance personnel to offer support in rescue operations and donated eight “Zodiac” boats to the Ecuadorian National Police and ECUMIL for use in rescue operations and the transport of medicines, doctors and patients in the sectors of La Carmela, El Porvenir, La Tranca, La Chorrera and Marujita, where hundreds of families live. After the emergency, these boats will be used by the Government of Ecuador to support antinarcotics programs. The Military Group’s total donations are $225,000.
