U.S Goverment Donate $23,700 to Support Program for Disabled Persons

February 15, 2008

Ambassador Linda Jewell, Ecuador’s Vice President, Dr. Lenin Moreno, and representatives of fourteen organizations that assist disabled persons attended an event on February 14, in which they signed an agreement to support a Digital Literacy program for disabled persons in Ecuador.
The U.S. government, through the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), has contributed $23,700 to training the program’s trainers, which will take place in Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca and Puyo.
The goal is to equip 270 people with physical, auditory and intellectual disabilities with computer and communication skills that will allow them to join the labor market.  Private companies have also offered to support the program by giving job opportunities to this important group of people.
