There are two main types of visas, Immigrant Visas and Non-Immigrant Visas. An Immigrant Visa allows a person to live, study and work in the U.S. indefinitely as a resident. Non-Immigrant Visas
To apply for a Non-Immigrant visa, all applicants, regardless of age, must pay a $131 visa fee and have a valid passport (the passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of the visa interview). Since a Non-Immigrant visa requires that the stay in the U.S. be temporary, the applicant must prove that he or she does not intend to stay in the U.S. indefinitely.
