Non-Immigrant Visas

K VISAS

K visas are non-immigrant visas for fiancées/fiancés or spouses of U.S. citizens who intend to immigrate to the United States. They allow the beneficiary to travel to the U.S. to finish processing their Immigrant Visa. Though K visas are technically non-immigrant visas they are processed by the Immigrant Visa section of the Consulate. The initial petition for a K visa can only be made at a USCIS office in the United States.  Once USCIS approves the petition it is sent to the corresponding Embassy or Consulate. In Ecuador, K visas are processed only in the Immigrant Visa section of the U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil. The U.S. Embassy in Quito does not process this type of visa. There are two main types of K visas: K1 and K3.

The necessary instructions for the interview at the Consulate are included in a packet called “Packet 4” (also called “Appointment Packet”). This packet is mailed to the address that the petitioner mentioned when sent the “Agent of Choice” form to the National Visa Center.  To check if your Packet 4 has already been mailed, please check "Appointment Dates".

All K Visa applicants must pay the USD $131 interview fee at any Bank of Guayaquil branch before your interview date.  If your case number is included in any of the PK4 lists sent by the American Consulate in Guayaquil, please follow the instructions on how to get an appointment through our Visa Information Service (VIS).  In order to contact our Visa Information Service click here

NOTE: Please do not perform the medical exams and do not pay the USD $131 interview fee at the Banco de Guayaquil until you have received the Packet 4 informing you how to schedule an appointment to apply for your K visa.

These visas are based on petitions made by U.S. citizens for their fiancée/fiancé. This type of visa allows the beneficiary to travel to the United States to marry the petitioner and later file a change of status from non-immigrant to immigrant status.

K3 Visa (click here to get a Packet 4 sample)

These visas are based on petitions made by U.S. citizens for their spouses. This type of visa was created to reunify families in the United States until the Immigrant Visa can be processed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not make final travel arrangements until you have received your immigrant visa.

- NEW SECURITY PROCEDURES -
The Consular Section is implementing new security procedures to speed interview processing.  In order to minimize the amount of time applicants have to wait in line before their interview; the American Consulate General will prohibit applicants from entering the building with anything other than the documents they need for their application.

Applicants should make arrangements before coming to the American Consulate General, so that the only things they have with them when they arrive are their documents. Purses, bags, suitcases, backpacks, etc. will no longer be permitted.

Limited baby supplies will still be admitted.
