Baby transportation letter
A legal resident of the United States can request a transportation letter for his/her baby two years old or younger, if the baby was born during a temporary absence of the mother outside the United States. The baby will qualify to enter the United States with a transportation letter only if this is the first trip back to the United States of the mother or father after the baby’s birth and if the father or mother is eligible to enter the United States as a legal resident.
If the mother travels alone before doing this process, he/she will have to file an immigrant visa petition for the baby in the Department of Homeland Security nearest his/her domicile in the United States. This process may take up to four years.
The parent(s) must bring the following documents:
Forms: Fill out a G-325 form with the data of the resident mother/father and another form for the baby.
Passport: On the appointment date the resident father/mother will need to come in person and present his/her passport, alien card and re-entry permit (if it applies). The baby must also come on the appointment date. The baby’s passport will be required.
Baby’s Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate from the Baby’s Parents (if applicable): It must be a direct copy from the hand written records book of the Civil Registry. Typed or computerized forms are not accepted. Every document not in English must be translated into the English language and the translations must be notarized in the American Citizens Services Unit at the American Consulate. In case that two baby letters for two minors are been requested, the father/mother will have to prepare document packages separately.
Prenatal Certificates and Records: Records from the hospital where the baby was born, certificate from the doctor who attended the child’s birth, bills of payments of the hospital, doctor, prescriptions and others. Reports of medical treatment received during the pregnancy in the United States and/or Ecuador (pregnancy echograms, three-dimensional, analysis, etc.)
Pregnancy Pictures: From the time when the mother was pregnant, with the family, baby shower, etc. (MANDATORY).
Certificate of Migratory Movement: If the mother does not have the stamp of the last entrance to Ecuador, he/she can request this certificate at the Ecuadorian National Police office.
Flight Ticket: It is MANDATORY to bring the flight ticket or boarding passes of the airline that transported the resident father/mother from the United States to Ecuador. In case of not having it, he/she will need a letter from the airline that certifies date, flight number and name of the passenger.
Pictures: Bring four pictures 5x5 cm. The pictures must have been recently taken. The photographs must show the applicant's entire face on a white background. Applicants should not wear glasses or hats for the photographs. Write your name on the back of each picture using a marker not a pen or pencil, and avoid them to get stained.
Appointment: Once you have all the required documents you may contact the Visa Information Service (VIS) at 1-800-010-145 in Ecuador, or 1-800-919-5290 in the United States, to schedule an appointment. For more information on the Visa Information Service, click here.
