• A legal resident of the United States can request a transportation letter for his/her baby two years old or younger, if the baby was born during a temporary absence of the mother outside the United States. The baby will qualify to enter the United States with a transportation letter only if this is the first trip back to the United States of the mother or father after the baby’s birth and if the father or mother is eligible to enter the United States as a legal resident. The fee for this process is $165 (One hundred and sixty five dollars) NOTICE THAT THE BABY CAN TRAVEL WITH HIS/HER RESIDENT FATHER OR MOTHER, BUT TO APPLY FOR THE LETTER, THE BABY'S MOTHER MUST BE A LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

IMPORTANT: If the father/mother travels alone before doing this process, he/she will have to file an immigrant visa petition for the baby in the Department of Homeland Security nearest her domicile in the United States, this process will take approximately four years.

• PARENT(S) MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

• FLIGHT TICKET: It is MANDATORY to bring the flight ticket or boarding passes of the airline that transported the resident father/mother from the United States to Ecuador. In case of not having it, he/she will need a letter from the airline that certifies date, flight number and name of the passenger.

- New Security Procedures -

The Consular Section is implementing new security procedures to speed interview processing.  In order to minimize the amount of time applicants have to wait in line before their interview; the American Consulate General will prohibit applicants from entering the building with anything other than the documents they need for their application.

Applicants should make arrangements before coming to the American Consulate General, so that the only things they have with them when they arrive are their documents. Purses, bags, suitcases, backpacks, etc. will no longer be permitted.

Limited baby supplies will still be admitted.
